My Story |
I grew up in Newark, DE, then Durham, NC, but moved to Pennsylvania when I was in high school. I attended a small college called Alvernia University for Elementary and Special Education in Reading, PA. Since I was in the fourth grade, I knew I wanted to be a teacher, and in 2005 that dream came true. Upon graduating, I moved to Raleigh and taught first grade for 4 years at Stough Elementary. I then moved to Charleston, SC to be with my husband, and taught first grade there for 3 years. This is where I also earned my National Boards Certification. Lastly, we moved back to the city we love, Raleigh, and I again taught first grade for 2 years at Barwell Elementary. I then took a 2 year break to be with our first born son, Dilann, and have been teaching one year here at Sycamore Creek, second grade.
As is it very obvious, my little family of three is growing into a family of four! We are so excited to complete our family with another baby boy who we are expecting in early October. Luckily, this will be during our first track out of the year, and I will return in the third quarter. Prior to my maternity leave, I will be planning extensive lessons and preparing the substitute to continue the second quarter with the routines and expectations we have set in place during the first quarter. |
About Me |
What I enjoy most is spending quality time with my family. We love to travel together, eating at new restaurants, visiting museums, going to the pool, and visiting relatives. Cooking is probably my second favorite joy, followed by reading, watching movies, and spending time with friends. My favorite place to go in the morning is Starbucks, my favorite color is Carolina blue, my favorite children’s author is Eric Carle, and my favorite subject to teach is ELA/ Reading.
What I enjoy most about teaching is building relationships with my students and my parents. I have made many life-long friends in the last 13 years since I have started teaching. Every student that I have encountered has definitely made a mark in my journey and I have loved every minute of my teaching career because of them. Parents have become equally important, and I couldn’t have made it through some years without them. One of the most monumental experiences occurred this past June as I attended the High School Graduation of my very “first” First Grade class. It was a moment of pride and great accomplishments. I look forward to watching this class grow throughout their school journey as well!
